Okay, so I haven’t really explained what kind of schedule I have here, so some of you friends and family may have been wondering why it seems like I have dropped off planet Earth. Let me lay out an average day for you…
5:30 start trying to wake up
5:45 throw off the covers and freeze to death;…

What To Embroider??
I have decided that when my first check comes (if ever) my new project will be embroidering an obi. Because I can, and I always need new accessories.
So I ask you! My followers what should I pattern? Do I go traditional? Do I go Western or do I just go totally cute/nuts? Its a cream base fabric.

Today I officially declared as the day to start packing to return to America! This year in Kyoto has been a whirlwind and I will be making photo posts long after I return home… curse editing and sorting, but I just want to thank EVERYONE for this year of support.
I’m in tears as I begin to…

1chigo1chie asked: For the "Hokorobi" sweet, another meaning for "hokorobu" it is "to begin to open" and those sweets kinda look like a flower bud about to bloom, being Spring and all ^^

Anonymous asked: Hi! I hope this question hasn't been asked too often, but I'm curious: What exactly is Midori Kai? What is the program you're in/what do you do in the program? Your Christmas Chakai photos really made me wonder what sort of things you do daily. Thank you for running such a lovely blog, and for taking the time to read this!

Shogo no Chaji: Reflection
I thought I would post my reflection report on being the Ryori-cho for last month’s Shogo no Chaji at Toin Seki.
[[MORE]] February has marked the final countdown of my days here at Midorikai, and just when I had the idea that things should be winding down, well once again I have been proven false, and the month of adding another layer takes on a whole new meaning for things...

Take It To The Mizuya: Pro-Tips
#4 T.P.O
This is a big phrase in Japan and perhaps one of my personal favorites! Time(時間)、Place(場所)、Occasion(場合)OR Opportunity(と使われることもある)On the flip side of the coin you are ALWAYS being watched as a student of Midori-Kai, “standing out” is a VERY big understatement. It is a truly unique environment, you will go many places in Kyoto and without even saying a word shop keepers and people...

Spring Is Here!
Today marks the first official day of spring, the radio this morning even made the official prediction announcement for sakura blooming in Kyoto, March 31st…. I hope its earlier though…
In addition it also marks my final 30 DAYS in Japan and 15 DAYS left of Midori-Kai. I must stay focused.
Its still sinking in… so I sort of feel like this…

Take It To The Mizuya: Pro Tips
#3 I’m Watching You!
If there is one word to describe life and learning here it would be OBSERVE. It is key to keep your eyes always open and watch what others around you are doing. There are many things that you are expected to do, but no one will ever tell you because there is simply TOO MUCH. So be mindful and always watch your senpai, fellow classmates at the Gakuen, teachers,...

#2 “Steal Your Knowledge”
This might just be the best learning technique I have ever heard. I can’t thank Gary-Sensei enough for this! You have to “steal” so much about dogu, temae and everything with your EYES and EARS! There will be many events where asking questions and taking pictures is simply out of the question. You need to be ready to absorb everything around you without asking about...
